Jimmy Savile (UK / Radio Luxembourg DJ and a cycling fan - many Manchester Mods were too) used to own a club in fountain Street Manchester called the Three Coins. It was not successful and became derelict. About a year later, the end of 1966 Roger Eagle the DJ at the Twisted Wheel opened it up as a Soul Club called STAXX. It did not last long. Once again becoming a derelict building. Anyway his entrepreneurial spirit and love of Soul continued, in the mid 1980's he was involved with Simply Red. In the late 1990's he moved to Wales where he died. Roger can be seen claiming to be the instigator of the genre of Northern Soul on the DVD set 'The Strange World of Northern Soul' and he is quite correct!
